Week 3 Structures, Research, Development

Structures, Research, Development

Organization Structures

A usability factor is efficiency. A website's organization is just as important as its resourcefulness. It will determine how easily a user can navigate. Three main organizational structure are hierarchical, sequential, and matrix.

Hierarchical

  • Most common architecture structure
  • Structure: Top-Down Approach (Broader to specific)
  • Example: Amazon, Wells Fargo

Sequential

  • Step-by-step that follows a specific path
  • Structure: Chronological
  • Example: Checking out, creating an account

Matrix

  • User has independency and chooses their own path
  •   Structure: Database
  • Example: Galileo, Wikipedia
Sustainable structures should have the ability to insert new information. Structures should allow the user to quickly get to their material and not be created in a way that forces the user to dig for the information.

Project Development

Things to consider when developing a project is understanding the targeted demographic. Developers need to be empathetic to understand their client and conduct research to gain as much insight as possible. In addition, the company should also create a product that is realistic and doable. The company should be able to execute a product that will satisfy their clients but also a product that can be promised.

User Research Basics

Below is a graph showing the process of each step used to conduct research, develop, and finalizing a project
The methods used in UX research lies in the opinions of the user. Researchers will collect qualitative data from users. They do this through strategies such as real time observation of the clients. Another technique that may be use is a method called "card sorting" in which user will subjectively match and organize physical cards. This will give ideas for researchers on how to structure their projects. Researches can conduct large groups and individually. These are all methods used to develop a product.
