Celebrity Cruise Usability Heuristics
Goods:
Minimalistic and Consistent
The website layout of Celebrity Cruise is well organized and consistent. It utilizes their white space effectively, so the website is able to add multiple content on its page without making the page appear too crowded.
User Control and Freedom
The Celebrity Cruise site has a lot of content so most of their page will require the user to scroll often. Regardless of where the user is on the page, the menu page will follow the user, but it does not obstruct the user's view of the page, so it makes navigating flexible and efficient.
Bad:
Recognition Rather than Recall
There are multiple ships for Celebrity Cruise and recently I went on their Celebrity Summit ship. The website contains all of their ships, and each ships varies in the activities and amenities. Additionally, the ships amenities and activities is different based on which class plan the user paid for. The website will group the activities available for different plan as if it is available for all members regardless of their class which confused me and cabinmate. The website needs to be more specific on which plans are available for which class.
Help and Documentation
It took me several minutes to find the policy for the cruise. Also, I was not able to find information about an amenity before the cruise which did exist on the cruise.
Flexibility and Efficiency of Use
I had to constantly renavigate through the menu to the Celebrity Summit page to continue looking at the content
Improvement:
Since there was a lot of cruise ships and variety, I think the website tried to make it convenient by condensing information, but instead it made it more confusing for me. I think it is more beneficial to include more subcategories to separate the content better. There were some missing content that can easily be fixed by updating the website's information.
Important information such as policy and requirement should be prioritized so placing it in an obvious place like the main menu bar.
