Kroger Usability Heuristics (W2:INFM372)
Kroger
Grocery Shopping Retail
Goods:
Flexibility and efficiency of use
Users can adjust the quantity of the item from the current page instead entering a sequenced page. Also, coupons can be applied while shopping instead of waiting to checkout to do so.
There is a openable and closeable cart tab on the side, so user can check what they have in their cart while they are shopping and adjust the quantity while doing so.
Visibility of system statusFor most retail sites, user would have to refresh the page to see that their cart has been updated, but on the Kroger website, user will be able to see the update almost instantly.
Help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors
Kroger will have a message if a function is unable such as if pharmaceutical online refills are temporarily unable. The website also give an option to substitute items if they were to be out of stock.
Bad:
Aesthetic and minimalist design
There is too much use of white space which makes the website look bland, so I want to spend less time on the website.
Improvements:
I think it important for a retail store to persuade its consumer to buy more, so Kroger's website should upgrade the appearance of the website to make buyers want to stay longer. I think they could improve the appearance of the site by decreasing the white space and filling those spaces up with more products and color.
For example: Amazon has adequate spacing and is able to eliminate some white space to advertise it products. The product images also adds more to the aesthetic by giving it color. I find myself buying things I end up not needing on amazon.
