MyMercer Portal Usability Heuristics (W7: INFM372)

Image
MyMercer Portal Task: Register for a class Good: Help Users Recognize, Diagnose, and Recover from Errors A message was display helping me understand that I will not be able to register unless I resolved a holding Error Prevention The Message Center on the homepage will let me know that I have an unresolved holding.  Help and Documentation A tutorial is given on how to register for classes Bad: Control and Freedom Violation Rating: 2 The image preview in the registration tutorial is a bit obnoxious. It is highly sensitives and pops up automatically when the cursor touches it. The preview photo is huge too. The only way to exit the preview is by moving the cursor away until it is off the photo.   Recommendation: Let the user have the control of previewing the image. A point click mechanism may be better than a sensitivity trigger for the preview image.  Flexibility and efficiency of use Violation Rating: 2 The steps to drop a class is too convoluted. I had to go...

HBO Max Usability Heuristics (W6: INFM372)

Image
HBO Max Task: Log in and find a reality show or movie to watch Good:  Aesthetic and minimalist design The color scheme of HBO max clean and clear. I can see that purple is the color associated with HBOmax.   Bad: Flexibility and efficiency of use Usability Rating: 1  I do not like how I can not see the preview of the shows and movies. I have to click on the video to see the preview and then go back to resume searching for movies or shows to watch.  Consistency and standards Usability Rating: 1 HBOmax will automatically sign out when you exit the page. I want the page to keep me signed in unless I indicated that I want to  stay logged out.  Recognition rather than recall Usability Rating: 2 Filtering is not something I could easily grasp the first time. There are a lot of options and some options are redundant.  For example, when I click on "reality" in the genre list, there is only an option filter for series, and it confuses me because I understand th...

GCFGlobal Visual Principle (W5: INFM372)

Image
GCF Global Good Visual Principle White Space: I like how the GCF Global site centered their content by creating negative space to the margins. It's makes reading the material easier and more digestible because I do not have to skim across the whole page but keep my focus in the same alignment. Alignment: The alignment on the site is for the most part consistent. I do not need to guess where the next line starts or ends. There isn't going to be line that randomly begins in a new position.  Hierarchy: GCF Global shows hierarchy on their site by having enlarging the title of the header to indicate the start of new content.  Repetition:  The site kept its repetition by following the same typography. The header will always be the biggest and the supporting detail will be smaller. Font style remained constant. Contrast: The images on GCF Global definitely is a contrast to the black text and white space by using different color and sizing. In the hierarchy photo above, the...

Sephora Usability Heuristics (W4:INFM372)

Image
Sephora   Task: Purchase a makeup product Good: Flexibility and efficiency of use Sephora menu page is very well organized. They have categories for each type of products and is laid out in a way that makes navigation easy. In addition, Sephora will let the user know if there is a product available at the selected store and if it offers next day delivery. Bad: User control and freedom Rating: 2 When trying to view and compare two products, the product I am trying to compare will open up on the same page. This makes comparison  a bit more difficult.  Error Prevention Rating: 1 It does not tell me that I have added the same product into my cart.  Aesthetic and minimalist design Rating: 1 The use of white space was fine until it got to the checkout section. The issue with Sephora's checkout page is there is not enough contrast in the container, so it made the information look too contained and cluttered.  Visibility of system status Rating: 1 I have hig...

Delta Usability Heuristics (W3:INFM372)

Image
Delta Airline Task: Finding an airline ticket Good: #8: Aesthetic and minimalist design The visual design of the website is simple and easy on the eyes . It emphasizes the important content of  the page base on what is priority. For example, the booking area is easy to locate as it appears to be the biggest component on the home page and most noticeable. It makes booking a flight easier.  #1: Visibility of system status It shows that the system is updating and processing.  #7: Flexibility and efficiency of use Rating: 0 In general, it was pretty quick to book a flight with Delta.  Bad: #6: Recognition rather than recall Rating: 1 When I try to filter my flight by price and connection time, it does not show me the exact numbers when I adjust the bar.  #10: Help and documentation Rating: 1 I wanted to know if the first carry-on was free. I did not know that I had to click continue to review and pay in order to know that information. It was a bit misleading ...

Kroger Usability Heuristics (W2:INFM372)

Image
Kroger Grocery Shopping Retail Goods: Flexibility and efficiency of use Users can adjust the quantity of the item from the current page instead entering a sequenced page. Also, coupons can be applied while shopping instead of waiting to checkout to do so.  There is a openable and closeable cart tab on the side, so user can check what they have in their cart while they are shopping and adjust the quantity while doing so.  Visibility of system status For most retail sites, user would have to refresh the page to see that their cart has been updated, but on the Kroger website, user will be able to see the update almost instantly.  Help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors Kroger will have a message if a function is unable such as if pharmaceutical online refills are temporarily unable. The website also give an option to substitute items if they were to be out of stock.   Bad: Aesthetic and minimalist design There is too much use of white space wh...

Celebrity Cruise Usability Heuristics (W1:INFM372)

Image
Celebrity Cruise Usability Heuristics Goods:  Minimalistic and Consistent  The website layout of Celebrity Cruise is well organized and consistent. It utilizes their white space effectively, so the website is able to add multiple content on its page without making the page appear too crowded.  User Control and Freedom The Celebrity Cruise site has a lot of content so most of their page will require the user to scroll often. Regardless of where the user is on the page, the menu page will follow the user, but it does not obstruct the user's view of the page, so it makes navigating flexible and efficient.   Bad:  Recognition Rather than Recall There are multiple ships for Celebrity Cruise and recently I went on their Celebrity Summit ship. The website contains all of their ships, and each ships varies in the activities and amenities. Additionally, the ships amenities and activities is different based on which class plan the user paid for. The website wil...
